Chemicals, Gloves and the Skin Workshop

A one-day highly interactive virtual workshop for creating and maintaining an effective glove selection and use system for protection against chemical hazards

Aim

The aim of this workshop is to provide participants with the knowledge to develop an effective system for the use of gloves to protect against chemical hazards.

The Need

If gloves are to be used effectively to protect the hands against damage due to contact with chemicals it is essential that those deciding on the type of glove and how it should be used understand how gloves work and how they fail. Gloves that do not protect properly can actually increase the damage that the chemical can do, both to the skin itself and to internal organs and systems.

The way in which gloves work and fail is far more complex than many realise. Gloves selected purely on the basis of the manufacturers' catalogue will frequently fail to adequately protect, even if they comply with the EN glove standards.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for anyone who has to decide, or influence, whether - and how - gloves should be used for protection against chemical hazards? This includes: Health and safety practitioners, occupational hygienists, occupational health practitioners, HR personnel, factory managers, etc.

How will it benefit participants?

This highly practical, interactive workshop will provide you with the knowledge of how gloves work and how they fail and how to create a structured system that will enable you to develop and maintain a glove selection and use system that really will help protect the health of your workforce.

  • It will help to ensure that your organisation is complying with its regulatory responsibilities.
  • It will help when negotiating with glove suppliers so that the gloves you purchase really do meet your needs.
  • It will ensure that you understand how all chemical protective gloves can damage the skin and how to prevent this.

Morning

In the afternoon we will help participants work through examples of workplace situations using the EnviroDerm Services' Glove Manual to create a structured approach on how to identify the optimum gloves and how they should be used.

From this, participants will obtain a detailed understanding of how the EnviroDerm Services approach to the selection and use of gloves for chemical protection can help them in creating their own effective system for glove selection and use.
